BANGKOK, Aug. 26, 2009— -- A pharmaceutical company from Las Vegas has announced it plans to manufacture a Viagra-like pill, a drug that can treat erectile dysfunction in women.
A company from Las Vegas will sell a female-enhancing pill to patients with erectile dysfunction in two years, but it's not going to be generic.
Viagra-like pills are also approved for treating other conditions, including pulmonary arterial hypertension and heart failure.
The company is also developing a product called, which combines a compound called sildenafil with an enzyme found in the blood vessels, which improves blood flow to the penis when the blood pressure is raised.
In a news release on the company's website, the company said the drug was being developed to improve the response of the patient.
"Patients are encouraged to use Viagra as a first-line treatment for erectile dysfunction, as it has shown to improve sexual activity and decrease fatigue and stress," the release said. "It's important that patients understand that Viagra is not an aphrodisiac, and that the pill will not increase libido or desire in women or men with underlying medical conditions."
The erectile dysfunction drug works by increasing blood flow to the penis when sexual stimulation occurs. Viagra also lowers blood pressure.
The company has not disclosed the full list of the drugs that are in development. The company's announcement comes on the heels of a similar announcement last week.
"We are pleased with the progress we've made in our clinical trials of Viagra, and hope it continues to improve our patients' ability to have a satisfying sex life," said Dr. Mark C. Thompson, the company's vice president for clinical development. "We look forward to the successful completion of Phase III studies of Viagra in patients."
The company will be in effect until the end of the year, but it's not available until at least the next month.
